Welcome

We are the group of psychologists conducting research in various fields of cognitive science, related with categorization and cognitive development. One part of our group (Kotov A., Agrba L., Vlasova L.) is exploring concept formation with different forms of generalization: prototypes, examples, theories. We are interested in a comparison of early and late stages of categorization, the difficulties facing people in these stages and what means he uses to resolve these difficulties. We are studying the concept to the side of associated cognitive processes - the organization of memory, control of attention, interaction of the categorization and perception, solving of different inductive tasks.

Most of our research we conduct on adult subjects, but the second half of our research group is studying cognitive development (Kotova T., Preobrazhenskaya A., Spiridonova M.). Basically we are dealing with children from 1 year (infancy-toddler) to 10 years (primary school age).

Topics that are currently under development - the development of speech and concepts (numbers, gestures, spatial relations), theory-of-mind, the phenomenon of overimitation. Genre of majority of our research - laboratory experiments with material presentation on computers. To study the same in children, we often create game situations in their natural environment.
